In this video I'll review the Aeroband Pocket Drum 2 Plus and show you if it's just a guitar hero like game, or an actual instrument.

Now are these things toys or a game that you play on your phone or are they an actual instrument
0:04
Let's find out. So there are two of them and they have like this power on button
0:17
Oh, so that immediately turns on so they're charged already. It started vibrating when I turned them on
0:22
So that's pretty cool. Let's turn those off for now. Then we have the pedals right here
0:36
So these are soft and pretty sturdy and then here is the receiver
0:40
You have line out so you can connect this to your audio system or you can put your headset in here
0:46
and just play over your headset, which is really cool. So the first step is the snare drum
0:55
Calibrate before starting. Okay, so it's calibration. So this should be good
1:10
So you can play some games with this and the difficulty level goes up gradually
1:14
So you can really well start to get the feel for how to drum
1:17
I'm a guitar player. So I have a little bit of a rhythm sense for rhythm, but I've never played drums before
1:24
I've seen people do it in my bands, of course, but this is something totally different
1:28
But I really like this. It's more of like a game. Once you've gone through like the first levels and you've really gotten into the app
1:38
you can pick a song and play along with that. That's more of like a Guitar Hero type of game where the bars come down
1:44
I would love to show you that but I don't want to get a copyright strike
1:49
But you have a lot of songs here. As you can see, there's really a lot to choose from here
1:56
One Love, Floor Filler, Lucky. So there are really a lot of songs to choose from
2:10
Really popular songs as well and pretty recent ones too. So they have a full library here of songs to practice with and do like a song mode
2:20
which is this challenge where the notes come down and you need to drum them
2:25
So that's pretty cool. Now going into the free mode, this is where you can play a real instrument
2:30
And you can see where you're playing on the drums. Let's calibrate it as well
2:35
So you can see that the hands move in front of the snare. And it really matters how hard you hit the snare and any tom for that matter
2:44
So it's quite a different range in expression that you can use here on this drum kit
2:50
So this really comes very close to an actual drum set. It's the closest I've ever seen any virtual instrument coming to an actual drum set
2:59
Because of the real feedback that you get here. And also the sounds are pretty cool as well, of course
3:04
But what helped me in my personal decision here was the app you get with it
3:09
So you can learn some different rhythms as you go along playing over these popular songs
3:14
So that's pretty cool. Now real magic comes in when you get the Pro version
3:20
Then you get this little device right here. And this has a line out and also a MIDI out
3:26
So you can connect this to your digital audio workstation and record some MIDI with it
3:33
And then do like what you normally do with your MIDI. You can choose which drums to use and everything
3:40
So this is more than just like a toy or a learning aid or game even
3:45
Although that is what really drew me to this. It's also a real instrument because of this
3:52
Because it really feels like a real instrument. And with this you get the MIDI out and also the line out
3:58
So let's hear what that would sound like. I'm going to plug this in and then connect this right through this little device here
4:06
And then use the line out so you can hear what it would sound like just like when you were recording
4:12
Ok, so now I've disconnected to my digital audio interface to my computer
4:16
So you can hear what I'm playing. Let me just put my headphones on so I can hear what I'm playing as well
4:41
So you can hear the difference in level and intensity a lot better than through the phone
5:02
And you also have a voice button so you can hear a different voice here
5:12
Push that again. And also a different and they really sound very different each of these
6:14
I don't really like this one. It's really like a digital drum set
6:43
So let's hear what that would sound like. So let's hear what that would sound like
7:44
So this is really fun to play around with
8:01
I've only had this for a day and I'm really just getting into like all this playing and stuff
8:08
But I'm really going to play a lot more of this and go through all the levels to learn more rhythms and more ways of playing
8:15
So and get more comfortable with like the different ways of holding the sticks for the different sounds
8:22
And I really recommend this for anyone looking for a cool practice instrument
8:27
But also just a really serious instrument that especially with the MIDI function and with the Pro
8:32
If you buy the Pro function then you can really make this shine
8:37
And really use this to record your ideas for example if you're a real musician
8:43
Because you can always take these with you very very easily. So well I'm going to play some more and thanks so much for watching
